How to Fall Correctly in Midlife and Avoid Serious Injury

Hello Friends,

A few years ago, I experienced a fall that taught me a valuable lesson—one that still resonates with me today. I was walking with a colleague to conduct a home visit when, suddenly and without warning, I fell hard on the pavement. Out of sheer embarrassment and adrenaline, I jumped right back up as if nothing happened. But in reality, the pain from that fall lingered for months, and to this day, I still experience occasional residual aches on the side where I landed.

As we move through midlife and beyond, the possibility of falling becomes more significant. It’s not something we like to think about, but it is something we should prepare for. Yes, there is a way to fall correctly—to minimize damage and reduce the risk of serious injury.

Today, I want to share three practical tips on how to fall safely, whether you’re walking outside or navigating your own home. Spring is just around the corner, and many of us are eager to hit the sidewalks, trails, and metro parks to achieve our daily walking goals. Let’s ensure we do it safely!

3 Tips for Falling Safely in Midlife

1. Stay Loose (Avoid Tensing Up)
One of the worst things you can do when falling is to stiffen your body. Instinctively, we tense up, but this increases the risk of fractures or serious joint injuries. Instead, stay loose and bend your elbows and knees slightly as you fall. Allowing your muscles to remain flexible helps absorb impact and distribute the force across your body.

2. Protect Your Head
Head injuries can be catastrophic, especially as we age. Always prioritize protecting your head during a fall. If you feel yourself going down, try to tuck your chin toward your chest and turn your body to the side. This simple movement reduces the risk of hitting your head directly, significantly minimizing potential trauma.

3. Try to Roll into the Fall
Instead of trying to stop your fall with your hands—which can lead to broken wrists or shoulders—aim to roll into your fall, spreading the impact across larger muscle groups, such as your shoulders or hips. A controlled roll can significantly reduce injury severity and speed up your recovery.

Prevention Matters, Too

Beyond knowing how to fall, it’s equally important to prevent falls from happening in the first place. Ensure you’re wearing suitable footwear with a good grip, keep your home clear of clutter, and have your vision regularly checked.

Springtime means more outdoor activities, and I want you all to stay safe and healthy. Please share this post with someone you love, as knowing how to fall safely could protect them from serious injury.

How Much Protein Does a Woman in Midlife Need?

Protein is one of the most essential nutrients for maintaining muscle, supporting metabolism, and keeping energy levels steady—especially for women in midlife. As we age, our bodies lose muscle mass, leading to slower metabolism, weight gain, and increased risk of falls or injury.

But how much protein do you need? And what happens if you get too much—or not enough? Let’s break it down.

What is Protein and What Does It Do?

Protein comprises amino acids, the building blocks for nearly every function in your body. It helps:

✅ Build and repair muscles
✅ Support a healthy immune system
✅ Maintain skin, hair, and nails
✅ Keep hormones balanced
✅ Promote a healthy metabolism

For midlife women, getting enough protein is key to maintaining strength, preventing muscle loss, and supporting overall health.

How Much Protein Do You Need in Midlife?

The general recommendation for protein intake is 0.8 grams per kilogram (or 0.36 grams per pound) of body weight per day. However, many experts suggest that midlife women need more—closer to 1.2 to 2.0 grams per kilogram (0.54 to 0.9 grams per pound) to support muscle maintenance and overall health.

For example:

  • A 150-pound (68 kg) woman may need 80–100 grams of protein daily for optimal health.
  • A 130-pound (59 kg) woman may aim for 70–90 grams daily.

Your exact needs depend on factors like activity level, muscle mass, and overall health goals.

What Happens If You Don’t Get Enough Protein?

If you’re not getting enough protein, you may experience:
⚠️ Muscle loss and weakness
⚠️ Slower metabolism and weight gain
⚠️ Brittle hair, nails, and dry skin
⚠️ Increased cravings and unstable blood sugar
⚠️ Poor recovery from workouts or injuries

Can You Have Too Much Protein?

While protein is essential, excessive intake can lead to:
⚠️ Digestive discomfort (bloating, constipation)
⚠️ Kidney strain (if you have pre-existing kidney conditions)
⚠️ Nutrient imbalances if protein replaces key carbs and healthy fats

The key is balance—enough protein to support your body, but not so much that it crowds out other essential nutrients.

Protein-Rich Foods for Midlife Women

Looking for protein-rich meal ideas? Here are some great options:
🥚 Eggs & Greek yogurt
🥩 Lean meats (chicken, turkey, fish)
🌱 Plant-based proteins (tofu, lentils, chickpeas)
🥜 Nuts, seeds, and nut butter
🧀 Cheese and cottage cheese

Healing When They’re Gone: Finding Forgiveness After Hurt

Forgiveness is a deeply personal journey that can feel even more complicated when the person who hurt you is no longer around. Whether they’ve passed away, moved on, or are simply out of reach, you may find yourself carrying unresolved pain, resentment, or unanswered questions.

But here’s the truth: Forgiveness isn’t about them. It’s about your peace, healing, and ability to move forward without the weight of the past holding you down.

In this post, we’ll explore what Forgiveness truly means, why it’s important, and how you can release the hurt even when reconciliation isn’t possible.

What Forgiveness Is (and What It Isn’t)

Before we dive into how to forgive, let’s clarify what Forgiveness is:

Forgiveness is letting go of pain’s emotional grip on your heart and mind.
Forgiveness is NOT excusing or justifying what happened.
Forgiveness is choosing to heal, even if the other person never apologizes.
Forgiveness is NOT reconciliation—sometimes, moving on separately is healthier.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting. It means remembering without reliving the pain.

Why Forgiveness Matters for Your Well-being

Holding onto anger and resentment doesn’t punish the other person—it punishes you. Studies have shown that holding grudges can lead to:

  • Increased stress and anxiety
  • Higher blood pressure
  • Poor sleep quality
  • Emotional exhaustion
  • Strained relationships with others

On the flip side, embracing Forgiveness has been linked to lower stress levels, better heart health, and even improved immune function. It’s not just an emotional act but a self—care act.

How to Forgive When They’re No Longer Around

1. Acknowledge the Pain

Ignoring your emotions won’t make them go away. Take time to recognize how you feel—anger, sadness, betrayal, or disappointment. Write about it, talk to a trusted friend, or seek therapy.

2. Release the Need for an Apology

Many people struggle with Forgiveness because they’re waiting for closure. But when the person is no longer available to give it, you must create closure for yourself.

Ask yourself: If I never get an apology, can I still choose peace?

You can. And you deserve to.

3. Express Your Feelings in a Letter (Even if You Never Send It)

Writing can be a powerful tool for healing. Consider writing a letter to the person who hurt you. Pour out everything you feel—the good, the bad, and the painful. Then, decide what to do with it. Some people keep it, some tear it up, and others burn it as a symbolic act of release.

4. Shift the Focus from Blame to Growth

Instead of what they did, focus on what you can learn from it. Ask yourself:

  • What did this experience teach me?
  • How can I grow from this?
  • What boundaries can I set moving forward?

Pain often leaves wisdom in its wake.

5. Engage in a Forgiveness Ritual

Consider a forgiveness ritual if you need a tangible way to release the hurt. Some ideas include:

  • Writing down the pain and physically letting it go (e.g., tearing up the paper, burying it, or tossing it into water).
  • Meditating and visualizing yourself, releasing the burden.
  • Saying a prayer or affirmation of release: “I choose peace over pain. I release this hurt and open myself to healing.”

6. Seek Professional Guidance If Needed

Some wounds run deep, and healing takes time. A therapist, counselor, or spiritual advisor can help you navigate complex emotions and provide tools for true emotional freedom.

How I’ve Walked My Forgiveness Journey

Forgiveness has been a personal journey for me, too. I’ve had to let go of hurts from people who never acknowledged the pain they caused—some of whom I’ll never see again.

For a long time, I believed that forgiving them meant they “got away with it.” But eventually, I realized I was the one still suffering while they had moved on.

I chose to forgive for me, not for them. And I can tell you from experience—that letting go brings a peace that holding on never will.

Your Healing Matters

Forgiving when the person who hurt you is no longer around is one of the hardest things to do—but also one of the most freeing. You don’t need their apology. You don’t need their validation.

You need yourself—whole, healed, and at peace.

If this post resonated with you, I’d love to hear from you in the comments. How have you dealt with Forgiveness? What’s helped you release the past? Let’s support each other on this journey.

And if you know someone who might need this message, please share it with them.

Until next time, take care of yourself and each other.

With peace and love,
Renee

How to Live on Less and Still Buy the Good Toilet Paper

For 2025, my goal is simple: live on less than I make while still enjoying a fantastic life. I’m not giving up my mani-pedis, massages, or getting my hair done every two weeks—those are non-negotiables. But I’ve realized there are other areas where I can cut expenses without sacrificing joy.

Why I’m Doing This

Two big reasons:

  1. I want to quit my full-time job by the end of the year to work on my business full-time.
  2. I want to retire comfortably while traveling, having fun, and living on my own terms.

This journey has also opened my eyes to something deeper: my relationship with money. Even at 64, I’m learning that financial healing is possible. And if I can do it, so can you.

How I’m Cutting Costs (Without Sacrificing Joy)

1. Dining In More Often

I love eating out, but cooking at home saves so much money. I’m planning meals and experimenting with delicious, healthy meals that excite me to eat at home.

2. Reevaluating Subscriptions

I reexamined my streaming services, memberships, and apps. Do I need them all? Nope. I kept the ones I used and canceled the rest.

3. Smart Grocery Shopping

Buying in bulk, shopping sales, and using cashback apps are easy ways to save. And yes, I still buy good toilet paper—because some things in life are worth it.

4. Prioritizing Experiences Over Things

Instead of impulse shopping, I’m focusing on experiences that bring me joy—like road trips, spending time with loved ones, and investing in my personal growth.

5. Finding Creative Ways to Save

From using reward points to negotiating better service deals, I’m becoming more mindful of where my money goes.

This journey isn’t about deprivation—it’s about intentional spending. It’s about spending in ways that align with my values and long-term goals. If you want to live well while spending less, I hope this blog inspires you.

Until next time, take care of yourself and each other. And don’t forget to check out the resources below for more money-saving tips!

Day 3: Taking Action – Creating Your Next Chapter

📅 Thursday: Turning Dreams into Reality

Welcome to the final day of the Midlife Reboot Challenge! 🎉

You’ve spent the past two days getting clear on what you want and breaking free from limiting beliefs. You’ve also started to reignite your passions and reconnect with what brings you joy. Now, it’s time for the most important step—taking action.

Because let’s be real—dreams don’t work unless we do.

You are not here to sit on the sidelines of your own life. Midlife is not a time to shrink back—it’s a time to step forward boldly and claim the life you truly want.

Step 1: Set a Goal That Excites You

We will take all the reflection and self-discovery from the past two days and turn it into something tangible.

Think about your joy list and the passion you identified yesterday. Now, let’s transform it into a SMART goal that’s Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

📝 Today’s Task: Write Down a SMART Goal

Vague goal: “I want to be healthier.”
SMART goal: “I will walk 30 minutes every morning for the next 30 days.”

Vague goal: “I want to write a book.”
SMART goal: “I will write 500 words every morning for the next four weeks.”

💡 Pro tip: The more specific your goal, the more likely you are to achieve it!

Step 2: Create an Action Plan

A goal without a plan is just a wish. Today, we’ll break your goal into small, manageable steps you can start working on immediately.

📝 Today’s Task: Write Down Three Small Steps

Example for a fitness goal:
Buy a pair of comfortable walking shoes.
Set an alarm to walk at 7 AM.
Find a walking buddy for accountability.

Example for a new hobby goal:
Research local painting or dance classes.
Schedule time in your calendar for creativity.
Buy the supplies or tools you need to get started.

👉 What’s one small step you can take today toward your goal? Please write it down and commit to doing it!

Step 3: Stay Accountable & Keep Moving Forward

Taking action is only the beginning. The key to lasting change is staying consistent.

Here are a few ways to stay on track:
Find an accountability partner – Share your goal with a friend who can support you.
Write it down – Keep your goal somewhere visible as a daily reminder.
Celebrate small wins – Every step forward is progress!

🌟 This is your time. Your second act is just beginning, and you have everything you need to create a life you love.

Day 2: Breaking Free & Reclaiming Your Joy

Welcome back to Day 2 of the Midlife Reboot Challenge! 🎉 You made it through Day 1, where we focused on clarity and self-discovery—and now, it’s time to break free from the thoughts holding you back and start embracing what truly brings you joy.

Let’s be real—midlife can feel like a crossroads. Maybe you’ve told yourself “I’m too old to start over” or “It’s too late for me.” Sound familiar? If so, you’re not alone. But here’s the truth:

🚫 These are just limiting beliefs—and they aren’t true.

🌟 Midlife isn’t a deadline. It’s a launchpad! 🌟

You have decades of wisdom, resilience, and experience that make you stronger, wiser, and more capable than ever. Today, we will rewrite the script and shift your mindset from self-doubt to self-empowerment.

Step 1: Let Go of Limiting Beliefs

Think about one belief that’s been weighing you down. Maybe it’s:

“I’m too old to change.”
“I should have figured this out by now.”
“I don’t have what it takes.”

📝 Today’s Task: Reframe Your Thoughts
Rewrite your limiting belief into something empowering and positive.

“I have decades of wisdom and experience. Now is the perfect time to create the life I want!”
“I am always growing and evolving. It’s never too late to discover new possibilities.”
“I am capable, strong, and ready for this next adventure.”

💡 Bonus Tip: Repeat your new belief out loud every morning. Let it sink in. Say it until you believe it.

🔥 Remember: Your thoughts shape your reality. Let’s start thinking in a way that serves you!

Step 2: Reignite Your Passions

Now that we’ve started clearing out the mental clutter, let’s shift gears to something exciting—your passions!

When was the last time you did something just for you? Something that made you feel alive, excited, and full of possibility?

We spend so much time caring for others—our families, jobs, responsibilities—that we forget about ourselves. But here’s a reminder:

You deserve joy, too.

So, let’s reconnect with what lights you up.

📝 Today’s Task: Identify One Passion
Think of something you’ve always wanted to do but never made time for. Maybe it’s:
🎨 Painting (even if you’ve never touched a brush before!)
💃 Dancing (turn up the music and move like nobody’s watching)
📚 Writing that book you’ve been thinking about for years
🌍 Traveling (even if it starts with exploring your own city)
🎸 Learning to play an instrument
🚴‍♀️ Trying a new sport or hobby

👉 Now, commit to taking one small step toward it this week!

Not sure where to start? Keep it simple:
✔ Buy the supplies.
✔ Research a local class.
✔ Set aside 15 minutes a day to practice.
✔ Plan your first step—then take it!

🎉 This is your time. Go for it!

What Your Purse Says About You: Fun Quiz & Easy Organizing Tips!

Hey Friends!

Today’s quiz is about having fun—no judgment here! I just spent two weeks recovering from the flu, and let me tell you, my purse is a hot mess. It looks like a war zone between crumpled tissues, random cough drop wrappers, and a mysteriously- leaked foundation bottle.

But you know what? Organizing this small space can be the catalyst for tackling those overflowing closets, bulging drawers, and that one junk drawer we all pretend doesn’t exist.

So, take this quiz, see what your purse says about you, and then stick around for my three simple ways to keep it all together. And don’t forget to share this with a friend who might need a little purse intervention, too!

What’s in Your Purse? Take the Quiz!

Answer the following questions, then check the answer key below to see what your purse might say about you.

1. How often do you clean out your purse?

A. Every day—organization is life.
B. Once a week or so, when it starts feeling heavy.
C. When I can’t find my keys under the receipts.
D. Clean it out? I get a new purse when this one gets too bad.

2. What’s the most random thing in your purse right now?

A. A perfectly labeled mini first-aid kit.
B. A granola bar from… last month?
C. A tangled phone charger and some loose gum wrappers.
D. A sock. Don’t ask.

3. Your wallet is:

A. A sleek, organized cardholder.
B. Stuffed with cards and old receipts.
C. Somewhere in there… I think.
D. Who needs a wallet? Everything’s in my pockets!

4. If someone asked you for a pen, what would happen?

A. I’d pull out a perfectly functioning pen in their favorite color.
B. I’d find one, but it might be out of ink.
C. I’d dump out my whole purse looking for one.
D. I’d tell them to use their phone notes because I don’t have one.

5. How many lip products are in your purse?

A. Just one—my go-to favorite.
B. Three or four, but they all serve a purpose.
C. More than five… some without caps.
D. I have a mini beauty supply store there.

6. Your purse is mostly filled with:

A. Essentials only—I travel light.
B. A mix of valuable things and a few “just in case” items.
C. Things I thought I needed but haven’t touched in months.
D. Everything I own. If I could fit my coffee maker, I would.

7. How often do you switch purses?

A. Daily, to match my outfit.
B. Seasonally or when it starts looking worn.
C. Only when something spills inside.
D. I stick with one bag until it falls apart.

8. What’s your reaction when you have to dig for your keys?

A. I have a designated spot for them—no digging needed.
B. It takes a few seconds, but I find them.
C. It’s a five-minute excavation.
D. I usually dump my purse out until I see them.

9. Do you carry snacks in your purse?

A. No, I plan my meals.
B. Sometimes, for emergencies.
C. Yes, but they’re probably expired.
D. Absolutely. I could feed a small village.

10. If someone looked inside your purse right now, what would they think?

A. “Wow, she’s got it together.”
B. “Not bad, just needs a little decluttering.”
C. “How does she find anything?”
D. “Is that… a used napkin from 2021?”

Answer Key: What Your Purse Says About You

Mostly A’s: The Minimalist
You’re organized and efficient, believing in carrying only what you need. Your purse reflects your well-planned lifestyle!

Mostly B’s: The Prepared Planner
You like to be ready for anything, but your purse might hold a few unnecessary extras. A quick clean-out will keep you from carrying too much.

Mostly C’s: The Busy Bee
Life is hectic, and so is your purse! You’re always on the go, but a little purse organization could save you time (and frustration).

Mostly D’s: The Wild Card
Your purse is an adventure waiting to happen! You’ve got everything from a broken hair tie to last week’s receipts. A little structure might make your life way easier.

3 Simple Ways to Keep Your Purse Organized

  1. The Weekly Reset: Every Sunday night, take five minutes to clean out receipts, old gum wrappers, and random papers. It makes Monday mornings feel so much better!
  2. Use Small Pouches: Group similar items (lip balm, pens, hand sanitizer) into small zippered pouches. It keeps things tidy and easy to find.
  3. The “One In, One Out” Rule: Every time you add something new to your purse, take something out. This keeps clutter from building up.

A messy purse doesn’t mean you don’t have it together—it just means life happens! But organizing this small space can help you feel more in control, and who knows? It might just inspire a full-on closet decluttering session.

Share this post with someone who could use some purse inspiration, and remember to check out the resources below for even more organizing tips.

Until next time, take care of yourself and each other.

The World Is Ageist—How to Navigate a Society That Thinks You’re Irrelevant

I was already behind. At least, that’s how it felt.

After my divorce, I returned to work, believing that my degree and the business my ex-husband and I built would count for something. But no one saw my years of running a household, raising five kids, and managing a business as “real” work experience. Suddenly, I was the oldest one in every room I entered. And now, in my 60s, that feeling hasn’t gone away—it’s only intensified.

The world is ageist, no doubt about it. But here’s the truth: just because society tries to write us off doesn’t mean we have to accept it. We have value. We have wisdom. And we have the right to take up space.

So, how do we navigate a world that constantly tries to make us feel invisible? Here are three ways to resist ageism and reclaim your relevance.

1. Own Your Experience—It’s More Valuable Than You Think

Years of running a household? Leadership, multitasking, financial management, crisis resolution, and negotiation skills all rolled into one. Decades of work in a field that’s now “too young” for you? That means you know and insights that can’t be learned overnight. Don’t let outdated hiring practices or societal biases make you question your worth. Speak up about your experience with confidence. You’ve earned it.

2. Keep Learning and Stay Curious

One of the biggest stereotypes about aging is that we stop evolving. Prove them wrong. Stay curious, learn new skills, and adapt to change. Whether it’s technology, a new career path, or a personal passion, embracing growth keeps you engaged and clarifies that age does not equal stagnation.

3. Surround Yourself with People Who See Your Worth

You don’t have to convince everyone of your value. Some people will always underestimate you. The key is to build a community of people who respect, support, and uplift you. Find mentors, peers, and friends who celebrate your wisdom instead of dismissing it.

You are not invisible. You are not irrelevant. And you are certainly not too old to take up space in any room.

Share this post with someone you love. Until next time, take care of yourself and each other.

With peace and love,
Renee

Do Your Skincare Products Have to Come from the Same Skincare Line?

Hello, friends! Welcome back to the Midlife Made Easier blog, where we are on a mission to help midlife women put their healing first.

When it comes to skincare, one of the most common questions I hear is: Do all my products need to be from the same brand? The short answer? No! But let’s dive a little deeper into why that is—and how you can build an effective routine that works for your skin.

The Myth of Sticking to One Brand

Many skincare companies market their products as being most effective when used together. While there’s some truth to the idea that formulations from the same line are designed to complement each other, that doesn’t mean mixing and matching is terrible. Choosing products based on ingredients rather than brand names can yield better results.

The Key to an Effective Skincare Routine

Instead of focusing on brand loyalty, consider these factors when building your skincare routine:

1. Know Your Skin Type

Are you dealing with dryness, oiliness, sensitivity, or combination skin? Understanding your skin’s needs will help you choose the right products, regardless of brand.

2. Look for Complementary Ingredients

  • Hyaluronic Acid + Ceramides: Great for hydration and skin barrier support.
  • Vitamin C + SPF: A powerful duo for brightening and protecting against sun damage.
  • Retinol + Peptides: Ideal for smoothing fine lines and boosting collagen.

3. Avoid Harmful Ingredient Combinations

Some ingredients don’t play well together, no matter the brand:

  • Retinol + Benzoyl Peroxide: Can cause excessive dryness and irritation.
  • Vitamin C + AHAs/BHAs: May lead to increased sensitivity.
  • Niacinamide + Vitamin C: They can cancel each other out if not formulated correctly.

4. Patch Test New Products

Always do a patch test before applying a new product to your entire face, whether using one brand or multiple. This helps prevent irritation or allergic reactions.

5. Listen to Your Skin

If a product isn’t working for you—whether it’s part of a full skincare system or a standalone purchase—don’t force it. Your skin will tell you what it needs!

The Bottom Line

Your skincare routine should be about what works, not what’s marketed to you. Mixing and matching brands is fine if the ingredients support your skin’s health and goals.
